The directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (DGSM) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is the National Standards Body of Sultanate of Oman.
Established by the Royal Decree No. 39/79 (20 October 1976),
And its duties and functions defined by Royal Decree No.1/78 (3 January 1978), DGSM is responsible for Standardization, Metrology, Testing, Quality Control and Quality Assurance, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation activities in the Sultanate.
Oman National Metrology Laboratory (ONML) is referred to as National Reference Laboratory in the Sultanate. The laboratory maintain the National Measurement Standards and assure its traceability to International Standards to unify the Units in the Sultanate , also to provide highly accurate metrological services in the field of Science , industrial, health and legal sectors in order to make effective contributions supporting the national economy, maintaining safety , the environment and consumer protection.
